Fairy Light Event
28th November 2009
Following on the success of the electric blanket event, Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Serviced asked me to take part in their 2009 Fairy Light Safety event. It will be held at Nottingham Road Fire Station, Chaddesden on 28th November 2009 between 10.00am and 4.00pm. Any lights that fail will be exchanged for a 20% discount card for new fairylights at B & Q Spondon
Electric Blanket event - Two days
29th - 30th September 2009
The 2009 electric blanket safety event in association with Derbyshire Fire and Rescue service was a great success. We inspected and tested 156 electric blankets, fifty percent more than 2008. The pass rate rose from 67% to 71% which was very encouraging.

Normally the blankets we condemn are sent for recycling. However when this one arrived for inspection it was clear
it would not pass as it is overaged but comparing it to all the others it was in such remarkable condition we decided
not to send it to be destroyed. Instead we are in the process of finding it a home. There must be a museum or other display
of a 1950s bedroom where this blanket would fit in perfectly.
New design website launched

I have launced the new look pat|man website which has a few new features. I hope you like the style of it and find the split navigation easier to use than the old red sidebar. There are more hyperlinks in the text so you can navigate to relevant pages quickly. There are now opportunities for you to purchase items refered to in the text from Amazon just by clicking on the link. And finally there are sponsored links to other sites involved in electrical safety, from training and instruments to calibration and components.

I am proud that Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service approached thepat|man to help this year's electric blanket initiative. Over two days I spent with Trish and Sarah of the Community Safety Team we inspected and tested over 100 electric blankets of which nearly One Third failed.

While at a meeting of the Burton Breakfast Club, part of South Staffordshire Chamber, at Branston Golf & Country Club a lady using the facilities at the club spotted thepat|car in the carpark and enquired of a friend who was at the Breakfast meeting If I was there too. I'm delighted that she has booked for August, when her appliances are due, already.
thepat|man forges a relationship with a major East Midlands brewery

After spoting thepat|car driving round South Derbyshire a local recommended thepat|man to his pub's landlord. The landlord was so impressed with the service her received he recommended us the brewery who have since booked us to do both their tenanted & managed houses as required.
New Members of South Staffordshire Chamber do business

Within days of joining the South Staffordshire Chamber thepat|man received an enquiry from a fellow new member which turned into a successful business relationship. David Munro of Lifestyle Accounting was looking to have their offices Pat tested in order to satisfy the requirements of the local college for employing a young person.
We have since heard that David and Louise were fully certified and are now in a position to employ someone through the college.

Following the success of being a member of the Derbyshire &Nottinghamshire Chamber of Commerce, The Pat Man has now joined the South Staffordshire Chamber of Commerce to help connect with our clients, and potential clients, in Staffordshire.
Being based in South Derbyshire means that Staffordshire, Particularly Burton on Trent, Lichfield, Uttoxeter and Tamworth, are as easy to serve as any part of Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire

A Century of customers!

Just over a year after starting in business thepat|man has served it's 100th client.
A remarkable achievement when you consider we have no repeat business yet. As most of our clients have a one or two year retest period we don't visit them more than once per year. We are just starting to contact last year's clients inviting them to book us for their tests this year at the moment. We haven't included their second visit in our client count, all 100 are different! We look forward to enjoying a long and safe relationship. We thank each and every one of them, without you there wouldn't be a pat|man!

We are delighted that our presence on the road has more style now that "Smartie" is thepat|car. The old car, a citroen Xantia, had served well for many years but got a bit to old and tired. When considering all the alternatives we wanted something a little different and, as the toolkit is very small, anything was possible. We chose the Smart Fortwo because it's practical, economical and environmentally good. Look out for "Smartie" motoring near you.

Fire Protection partnership

To enhance the service they offer a Derby fire protection engineer has appointed the pat man as supplier of Pat testing Services.
