Welcome to thepat|man
What is this "Pat" testing?
"PAT testing" is both a misnomer and a Tautology! The "PAT" part is "Portable Appliance Testing" so
We actually say "portable appliance testing testing" like some people say "PIN number" and "LCD display". However, most people refer to it that way and so will I.
It is a system which is designed to ensure that all electrical equipment in the workplace is safe and suitable for its purpose.
The real name is actually "The In Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment" but that doesn't roll off the tongue as easily. The "Electrical equipment" refered to includes Portable but covers Hand-Held, Stationary, Moveable, Transportable and Built in as well. The Whats, Hows and Whys of pat testing are laid down in the Code of Practice for In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment . You can usually tell if a business has had its appliances pat tested by little stickers, often green, on all their equipment or plugtops.
So what's thepat|man?
thepat|man was set up in 2006 to help you meet your legal and moral obligations as simply and cost effectively as possible. Not maintaining your electrical equipment means you may not be safe, you will be breaking the law and your insurance could be invalidated.
THIS WEBSITE IS ABOUT THE PAT TESTING SERVICE OFFERED BY ME, ROB EAGLESFIELD. IT HAS NOTHING WHATSOEVER TO DO WITH THE COMPANY CALLED "THE PATMAN.CO.UK LIMITED"
More details can be found on the About page.
And how much will it cost me?
To keep things simple I have price bands starting at just £1.00 per item. How much your
inspections and tests are depend entirely on how many items you have me pat test. The more you have,
the lower each item will be. E-mail or phone to find how how little it could cost you.
In my experience I find most companies that do not have accurate inventories of their
equipment have far more items than they think. As a rule of thumb count every plug you have, w
hether it is on a computer, a drill, a multi way adaptor, cable reel or even your radio,
then add 10%.
My price includes minor remedial work, such as a plug rewire, cable shortening to remove damage and correct
fuse replacement.
I use the latest pat test equipment and can give you documentation which includes full result
reports on paper or CD. I can keep an inventory of your equipment and remind you just before they are
due for inspection or testing, to schedule my next visit.
What area do you cover?
thepat|man is based in Derby but works from the Smart car. All pat testing is carried out at your place, wherever that is. My prices are valid if you are within 30 miles of my base in Derby and there is a very reasonable rate per mile if you are not.
I usually work in the counties of Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire and Staffordshire. In particular Derby, Nottingham, Leicester, Burton upon Trent, Loughborough, Uttoxeter, Ilkeston, Long Eaton, Belper, Ashbourne, Melbourne, Lichfield, and many many other places in between
